History
Located in the heart of Saida Old Town, Dukkan occupies a space that once served as the original entrance to Hammam Al Jadeed.
Dukkan is part of the architectural and historical structure of Hammam Al Jadeed, one of Saida’s important Ottoman-era landmarks. The space originally functioned as the main entrance to the hammam, welcoming visitors into the traditional bathhouse that once played a central role in social and daily life.
Over time, and as the hammam underwent restoration and functional transformation, this entrance area was separated and reimagined. Rather than losing its relevance, the space was given a new purpose while preserving its historical identity and connection to the original structure.
Transformation
Following a year of renovations, Sharqy Foundation unveiled Dukkan, a charming store in Saida Old Town. The transformation reflects a vision of adaptive reuse that is preserving heritage elements while giving them renewed functions. Dukkan was designed to become a space that supports local creativity, culture initiatives, and community engagement, while still honoring the historical significance of its origins.
Today, Dukkan by Sharqy Foundation invites visitors to explore a curated collection of cultural and touristic books, alongside an extensive range of authentic Lebanese mouneh. Visitors can also experience a space that blends simplicity with purpose - where history is subtly present, and creativity is actively expressed through the work of local artisans.
